More in the news regarding the Mississippi State Flag. A new design for the Mississippi State Flag will appear on the November ballot since the highly publicized Confederate emblem was removed back in June. The state commission voted in favor of the “The New Magnolia flag “over the “The Great River Flag.”  The new flag has the magnolia in the center, representing the hospitality of Mississippians. Sixty percent of people who participated in an online poll favored the flag. Presidential nominee Joe and Jill Biden visited Kenosha, Wisconsin, days after the shooting of an unarmed 29-year-old Black man, Jacob Blake, who was shot seven times in the back by law enforcement. Biden spoke to Blake by phone, however, Blake is still hospitalized and paralyzed from the waist down. President Trump also visited Kenosha, where he was greeted by supporters to assess millions of dollars of damage after protestors expressed outrage after Blake’s shooting incident. According to news reports Trump did not speak to Jacob Blake or his family while in Kenosha. In an August 11, 2020 Tweet, former Black Panther star, Chadwick Boseman tweeted a message encouraging everyone to vote. Using hashtags, the tweet said: #WhenWeAllVote and #Vote2020, which demonstrated the importance of using your voting rights in the upcoming November election. Boseman passed away, August 28, at the age of 43. He and Vice-presidential nominee Kamala Harris are graduates of Howard University.
